This webpage is UNDER CONSTRUCTION... Stained glass windows serve a very definitive purpose. They lend a mellowed atmosphere to the church interior, an atmosphere of quiet and rest. The pictures and symbols remind us of holy things, things of God, and help us turn our thoughts to our God in worship and prayer. It is not difficult to understand what the pictures in the various sets of windows represent. These pictures tell their own story. There are, however, symbols in each group too that also tell their story. In our day and age, the symbols we know best are such that deal with our daily activities, traffic signals, trade marks of manufacturers, etc. Religion has its symbolism too, a symbolism much older than these others. Religious symbols are used to express an abstract idea by a familiar sign. We have made use of such symbolism and we want the worshippers in our church to understand the meaning that is to be conveyed. Symbols must not be an end in themselves in that they simply appeal because they are beautiful. They must convey a very definite thought and message. THE STAINED GLASS WINDOWS of Grace Lutheran Church Fargo, North Dakota were dedicated to the service of the Triune God on Sunday, June 17, 1945
