2023 Advent & Christmas Schedule
Do you remember the abominable snowman in Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer? He was the big white Yeti monster who had been pacified and finally was the only one tall enough to put the star on the top of the tree. What a great honor it was to place that star for all to see!
The stars on top of Christmas trees draw us near to Christ. As the star led the wise men to the infant Jesus, so too we are drawn to see the savior of the world lying in such a humble estate. A tiny baby is the world's redeemer!
Did you know that there are many references to stars in the bible? So too in our Advent and Christmas hymns! We will be looking at four of them in detail. We will begin with the stars that God created and the complexity and density of the midnight sky. We will look up with Abraham to the midnight sky and see in those stars the one who is promised who would "cause all the families of the earth to be blessed." Then the star of David promised, and the star that led the wisemen to the infant Christ. And on Christmas day we will look at the bright morning star that rises in our hearts as we see the fulfillment of all God's promises in Christ.
Advent services will be over three Tuesdays beginning December 5th at 6:30 PM, with supper prior at 5:30 PM in the basement.
